Ferry Road Infrastructure Improvements

KOCRES has, for several years, been actively involved in seeking improvements to the infrastructure of Ferry Road.

In May 2009, Kingborough Council, the Department of Infrastructure and the Department of Economic Development commissioned consultants SEMF to produce a Ferry Road - Little Oyster Cove Precinct Plan. Following an extensive public consultation period a report, prepared by the Kingborough General Manager, on the draft Plan was considered by Council at a meeting on 23 November 2009.

The General Manager's report recommended that the report be received and that Council:

  1. note the Ferry Road/Little Oyster Cove Precinct Plan.
  2. seek an urgent meeting with the Minister for Infrastructure, Hon
Graeme Sturges to discuss the State Government’s response to the
    Precinct Plan.
  3. lobby both the State Government and the Federal Government for
funding for the upgrading of Ferry Road and the marshalling area as
    recommended within the Precinct Plan.
  4. pursue election commitments from all political parties for the
    immediate upgrading of Ferry Road.
  5. seek the views of the Southern Water Board on whether it is prepared
to be an active participant in the provision of a reticulated sewerage
system for Kettering either in the short or longer term; whilst at the
same time considering any other options which may be available for
Council to assist property owners who currently have non-complying
    wastewater treatment systems.
  6. commence amendments to the Kingborough Planning Scheme 2000
as outlined within the Precinct Plan.
  7. supports in-principle the concept of a boardwalk/pedestrian path on
the northern side of Ferry Road and requests that the matter be further
    investigated and reported to Council.

This recommendation was accepted and endorsed unanimously by Council
